Character Headcanon Generator Improved

As far as I’m aware, Statesman was around since the 20s, and the Freedom Phalanx since the early 30s, several years before the RL debut of Superman in 1938. Why on (Primal) Earth would the superhero genre develop the same way as RL when there would be so many actual stories, from their perspective, to draw from? And yet, one time, my character headcanon generator got stuck in a RP scene in which everyone was discussing the latest MCU releases and wanted to organise a movie night.

So before we talk about how you can utilize canon to make your headcanon for roleplay, it’s important we talk about the three arbitrary types of canon that I made up for the purposes of this write-up. A notion behind canon is that conversations about literature rely on shared reading experiences—so long as everyone reads the same books, readers will know they are talking about the same ideas. Naturally, this use of canon extended to fan circles, referring not just to the books and movies that concern the same group of characters, but to the narrative universe that exists inside those works. While character headcanon generators are undoubtedly valuable tools, they also come with challenges.

They would likely be considered less nerdy in the old days than they were in the real world, but I don’t see it being totally out of the bounds of reality. And, yes, magic is a HUGE can of worms I might address later. But consider for a moment that ANY concept that goes beyond what is accessible in the real world has the same issue as magic.

Write in an explanation as to why you don’t see it widespread. Particularly when it was Artemian (aka “That demented Madness Mage”)  or Tavaris he’d threatened. He just couldn’t wrap his head around the idea that Kai was Tav’s apprentice, or that the “demented Madness Mage” was her sidekick and best friend. I’ve run into a couple of Great Cosmic POWAH!! -types among the Homecoming roleplayers, but it’s not a common thing as far as I’ve seen.

The show writers certainly seem like they were considering it. I thought it would be awesome if he were ace instead. Daryl is another character who has never shown any romantic or sexual interest in anybody else, leading me to believe that he is an aromantic asexual. All of his relationships within the first five seasons thus far have been entirely platonic. Even when Beth (may she rest in peace) offers to have sex with him, he turns her down. All in all, I was left with the impression that he just isn’t interested in sex in general, and his lack in romance and sexual partners is certainly one of the reasons I love his character so much.

One potential pitfall is the reliance on the generator’s output without further refinement. It’s important for creators to view these generated profiles as starting points rather than finished products. Additionally, the randomness that makes these tools exciting can sometimes lead to incoherence if not carefully managed. Creators must remain vigilant in ensuring that the generated elements fit cohesively within their stories. While randomness is a key feature of character headcanon generator generators, many offer customization options to tailor the output to your specific needs. You can often select particular traits, backgrounds, or even moral alignments to better fit your narrative vision.
